FIRST VISIT
1st of October, a sunny Saturday. We all arrived 30 minutes late to the PPOC center because waze brought us to the wrong one. The center that we went to was another institute that is located at Puchong while the one that we were supposed to go to was located at Klang Lama. After some time going through all the jams finally we manage to arrive at nine-thirty.
We met up with Miss Noorseah over there and she introduced us to the person in-charged, Miss Amy. On that day Miss Amy was a bit busy so she just welcome us and gave us a table and a few stacks of fabric scraps to work on. She told us to start with our own work and come up with some design ideas for her with the fabrics donated by other corporates. After that she went back working with the less fortunate ones which were packing up straws for Vitagen.
We then divide our work and start experimenting on the pencil case idea that we found online. A few of us went through picking the suitable and nice ones from the pile of fabric samples, while the others started to measure and mark on the fabric. After all the preparation works were done we started to slowly sew it together by hand because Miss Amy doesn't let us use their sewing machines as she was concerned that we might spoiled them. Therefore we asked for needles and threads from her, and after a few tries we manage to get the correct method but the sewing was quite badly done due to our lack of sewing experience. Therefore Miss Amy removed the thread we sew earlier and start sewing using her sewing machine. In less than 5 minutes' time, our first prototype for the fabric pencil case is done! And we were all quite happy with the end product itself. Below shows some of the pictures we took on our first day visiting along with the pencil case prototype.

As a conclusion for the day, we only manage to complete 1 idea during our first visit as the workshop had to close for lunch break. Our job scope was a bit different from what we all expected. We thought we were supposed to teach and work together with the less fortunates but after talking to Miss Amy she said they will be busy with their own work and that we only need to generate workable ideas for her instead of mass-producing on products to be sold. In this case for the coming weeks we only need to come up with more prototypes of fabric products for her and use our time here to brainstorm and experiment with our ideas.
